Rahmani intended the game to be a blend of flight simulator and arcade game, but has been candid about leaning more towards arcade-style in order to create fun combat-based gameplay. Partly funded through a Kickstarter, Project Wingmanwas developed by Abi Rahmani and Matthew Nguyen. With fast-paced, flashy action and engaging gameplay, Project Wingman is the perfect game to live out any jet fighter pilot fantasies. As such, this is an action-packed, arcade-style game that's been compared to Ace Combat, and has been crafted with an obvious nostalgic love for films like Top Gun. Now available through Xbox Game Pass, Project Wingman is a combat flight action game that's decidedly not a flight simulator. My goal is to eventually get into DCS games.Project Wingman was originally released in December 2020 to hugely positive reviews on Steam. Maybe I am spoiled but the simulators that I have flown in the military and at United Air Lines!. I am not stupid, but Joysticks and Hotas are not user friendly or intuitive-I wish they were more plug-and-play. I am a retired Naval Aviator and a 757/767 United Air Lines Captain, and I'm just getting into these Aviation games. even if the game does come with preset binds, you'll likely have to go into the bind settings anyway to see which button does exactly what.

Also if you've purchased a HOTAS, there's always going to be a little work in getting it setup for a game.

for pitch/yaw/roll/thrust it's the same but it will be under axis tab instead. just select the function and then press the button on the joystick you want that function to be assigned to. go into options -> controls and you can set up your keybinds from the keybinds tab. I thought this was a "PLUG and PLAY" joystick and Hotas! it means you have to set up which button does what, which isn't terribly hard. I have no idea how to set it up or even what "binding" means and how to "bind". I am new to this game and I just purchased a Thrustmaster 1600 Hotas. It'll recognize button presses, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to recognize the stick itself for pitch/yaw and throttle lever for well, throttle.
